Set #9 - Sparky's Fireworks Emporium
What's a tourist trap without a fireworks dealer just watering
at the mouth to sell to the out-of-state crowd? A blazing
cluster of brightly-painted fireworks stores has always been a
reliable benchmark, suggesting that I'm getting close to the state
line. The underlying idea, as codified into various state laws,
has always struck me as a little hypocritical: "Buy all of
these pretty, sparkly things you want from our state's fine dealers,
but please, Please, PLEASE use them some place else!"
I've never really understood the appeal of the sorts of fireworks these places sell,
but lots of people seem to enjoy them. And besides, it makes for a colorful billboard
which provides a bit of color to offset the Roche Motel billboard.
It's also a natural companion to the Mystery Place billboard.
